THE ESCAPE OF PRISONER 614 REVIEWED
“The Escape of Prisoner 614” doesn’t really make any sense. I get that it’s supposed to be the past, but it’s not that far into the past. Cartoonish Sheriffs who don’t know the year are surprisingly in fashion, but Ron Perlman plays it so strange. He evokes a character somewhere between the 1890s and late 1960s. Everything about him is gruff to the point that I expected Yosemite to be his first name. So, what of the rest of the film?
I enjoyed Martin Starr. He holds his own as one of the small town’s deputies. It’s just that what else is there to the movie? Be nicer to prisoners? Don’t treat people like crap and try to do the best in your job? There’s not a ton of material to be mined, but what’s there just leaves me shrugging. Give it a stream or rental.
