ENTOURAGE: THE COMPLETE SEVENTH SEASON

THE PLOT THUS FAR

For Vince, Eric, Drama and Turtle, life in Hollywood’s fast lane can be an intoxicating ride. This season, after an accident during the filming of his latest action flick, Vince develops a new lease on life that makes him even more difficult to manage, while each of the guys must decide which steps to take to map out their own futures, both personally and professionally.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

The season focuses on the obvious direction to send Vince into the tailspin that this season portrays. It’s a great rendition of the stereotypical Hollywood-esque plummet into a drug binging lifestyle that is so often emblazoned across the tabloid newspaper covers.  This is definitely a different course for the show, but clearly the right one. The progression of this story arc through the season is subtle enough that it is not unrealistic or overly dramatic (until the final episode). It will transition well into the last season where we will likely see the resolution of each of the characters new directions.

Unfortunately, the latest seasons are now focused primarily on character development rather than the original “fun” recipe. Turtle starts his own business, Drama faces reality regarding his stardom and Vince begins to throw his life away, even now Season 7 cements this position. I think the writers just wrote it because they figured that’s what the audience would expect to happen. Additionally, this season just had way too much Ari. His rants are becoming annoying and predictable.

The DVD comes with a few featurettes and commentaries. The highlight of the featurettes has to be the show’s attempt at pumping up Sasha Gray’s acting ability. I’m sorry, but if Soderbergh can’t make you look like a real actress…nobody can do it. The commentaries remains the usual circlejerk of back-patting and half-fiving among friends. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase for fans.
