EAGLES OF DEATH METAL: NOS AMIS

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL: NOS AMIS REVIEWED

“Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis” works because it’s not terror attack porn. What the film does magnificently is cut away from the carnage and let the survivors speak for the event. U2, Eagles of Death Metal fans and locals all speak about how the attack impacted them. But, it’s through the band and the Bataclan attendees’ testimony that we get a pictured painted. Too often, the American documentary decision is to capture absolute truth via recreation. Nos Amis is concerned with relationships and the friendships that arise in the face of tragedy.

While not ideal, it allows a sense of humanity to emerge in the face of tragedy. I’m thrilled that Shout Select chose to give this documentary its own HD bow. What I wonder is if we can expect to see more documentaries going forward? This has been an insane three year stretch for documentaries, so I’d love to see more companies get onboard with releasing them. Plus, Colin Hanks is 2 for 2 in terms of nailing this material.

You don’t have to be a fan of the band to enjoy the material, but it helps to have an idea of their existence.
