ComedySmack, the Internet’s only free daily email blast of insider comedy content, is announcing the finalists for its Smack-Down 08 contest throughout this week and next. The Smack-Down, now it its second year, highlights the best comedy finds of 2008 in a variety of categories.
The ComedySmack creative team, led by founder David Moore, combed through hundreds of sources and reader submissions in search of the funniest and most memorable comedy from 2008. ComedySmack’s editors then narrowed down the best into three or four finalists for each category.
The categories are: Best Web Video, Best Standup Clip, Best Political Video, Best TV Clip, Best Humor Piece, Best College Comedy, Best Overheard (aka Best One-Liner), Best Website and Best Random Video. Comedians and comedy writers across the country submitted their best work throughout the year, and finalists were chosen based on humor value, groundbreaking content, and a healthy dose of reader feedback.
In addition to being original, culturally relevant and above all, fall-down funny, the items featured in Smack-Down 2008 encompass a wildly diverse range of comedy, from YouTube videos to humor from The New Yorker, from Tina Fey to Sarah Palin . “ComedySmack is about the best in comedy everyday,” says Moore. “But this contest is about achieving lasting world peace. We believe it will.
