THE PLOT THUS FAR
This tense horror film follows a young couple in search of the man’s ex-girlfriend, who has disappeared. After infiltrating a mysterious house in a bad area, they uncover a murderous plot with an explosive link to Argentina’s last military dictator.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
I like it when films take place in real time. It’s a quirk, but I’ve dug it ever since “High Noon”. However, this Argentinian thriller from 2010 lacks the same sort of passion. The big push for the film is the lead guy’s search for his missing girlfriend. He teams up with a few others and their investigation has led them to a nondescript building in a not very welcoming part of town. Their experiences inside this hellhole make up almost the entirety of the rest of the movie. You can fill in the rest.
“Cold Sweat” is heavily influenced by modern horror clichés and goes for some torture-cellar style way. But except for one ludicrous scene there is no real gore here, so its not the selling aspect. This is not a horror movie, its a comedy and I am sure of that because of these scenes: – Guy watches torture through a one-way window with a talk-back feature and gets freaked out when a senior listens back in to him so he has to be very quiet in one of the first ridiculous endless slow motion pseudo-suspense scenes of the movie.
The DVD comes with director’s commentary, deleted scenes, featurettes and promo spots. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp, as it sports a pretty strong Dolby 5.1 track. The transfer is a little flat with plenty of digital noise throughout the transfer. That being said, it’s an indie horror movie from South America. It’s not like it’s going to look glorious. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
