THE PLOT THUS FAR
“Church Girl” is more than a stage play it is a life changing experience! based on true stories church girl follows the life of emily franklin a pastors daughter who is lured into a dangerous and fast-paced world that leads her away from the spiritual and virtuous lessons she has been taught.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Church Girl” reminds me of those Urban Stage Plays that “In Living Color” used to make fun of in the early 1990s. Stuff like “Mama, My Arms are Too Short to Box with God” and stuff like that. But, the film and the stage play works for a group that’s far beyond my reach. I simply don’t understand urban evangelicals and their love of melodrama. Whatever happened to the Jack Hills and Ernest Dickersons of the world? I need some plotting for my pieces.
Most of the people that will watch this DVD are people that have seen the stage show or are seeking out the film based on the opinions of friends. So, what can I really do? I hated it, but does it really matter to fans of this schlock? They want to hear about people being good and getting down with the Judeo-Christian Lord. At least we can say with Tyler Perry, the film would play like some film school dropout trying to riff on Altman. But, we get this instead.
The DVD comes with no special feature. The A/V Quality is strong enough for an indie stage play, but you’ll want to have back channel support for some of that tricky dialogue. What kills me about the film is that it’s two hours long, but feels like four. Learn how to end this crap on time, people. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
