“Chronic” focuses on an in-home nurse that tries to bond with his dying patients. While the nurse suffers from crippling depression, he goes out of his way to try and keep his co-dependent relationships going. Tim Roth manages to make the role feel less pathetic than it could’ve been. Still, it’s 93 minutes of watching life keep kicking a hard working guy in the guts. If you can hang with that, then this is right up your alley.
That being said, I’m kinda shocked that the film didn’t get any attention outside of the Independent Spirit Awards. It’s not an amazing movie, but it was better than “Lion”. Tim Roth continues to be the best thing that he’s in, regardless of the pedigree of the cast or filmmakers. If you know anyone in this situation, it’s not 1 to 1 realistic. That being said, there’s enough going on that can make it uncomfortable for anyone that can draw some sort of human connection to the material.
It’s weird that I have to bring that up, but that’s what happens when you engage Internet weirdos. Pick it up for a rental or stream. One viewing will be enough for most, but don’t discount it.
