THE PLOT THUS FAR

Lance Reed is forced by a psychotic stranger to confront his duplicitous past. Seeking retribution for a crime, the man forces Lance to reveal his inner most secrets by systematically removing his limbs.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

After accepting a ride when his car breaks down, Lance finds himself tortured by a man from his past he can’t remember who holds a grudge for events Lance has forgotten. Now Lance must choose between saving the life of his brother or his wife. But, that’s the basic tidbit of the movie. Have you ever had a hard time remembering someone? Well, what if your life and body integrity depended on it? That’s where the film is built.

Trent Haaga is an excellent horror director and plays well with the limitations of a low-budget movie. However, its mix of B-movie plot and questionable dialogue might put off the highbrow. There’s a lot of crass language used when the plot doesn’t hang properly. Still, it plays like a really good episode of “Tales from the Crypt” with Troma sensibilities. I’m a big fan of that kind of EC style horror, but it doesn’t really go anywhere.

The DVD comes with outtakes and deleted scenes. The Dolby Stereo track is strong enough for a film that doesn’t overly rely on audio effects. However, I found the transfer to be muddy and a little subpar for standard definition. I wonder if it was just indie aesthetic or poor shooting that made it look so pedestrian. However, I’d recommend a purchase.
