CBSNews.com announced today HEALTH AND WELLNESS, a weekly webcast anchored by CBS News Medical Correspondent Jennifer Ashton, M.D. The weekly webcast kicks off Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 AM, and will explore general health issues with a focus on women, including discussions on everything from exercise at every age to stress-fighting foods. Each week, Dr. Ashton will moderate a roundtable discussion that includes a variety of health specialists, experts and patients. Each webcast will also include taped segments and interviews related to the issues at hand. The first webcast will address sexually transmitted diseases – prevention and misconceptions, and will feature questions and comments from people on the street, as well as interviews with Dr. Shanda Corbit and Judge Toni Belford Damiano, who adds a fascinating legal take on spreading STDs. “We’ll explore general health issues with an eye towards how they relate to women,” said Dr. Ashton. “We hope that by bringing important topics and issues to light online, we can explain sometimes complicated medical information in a fresh and accessible way.”
Dr. Ashton, a graduate of Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, is board-certified physician in obstetrics and gynecology with more than 10 years of experience in the medical field. For the past five years, she has been an attending staff member of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, N.J., an affiliate of Mount Sinai School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Dr. Ashton also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation for Humanism in Medicine, is active with many charities, and has been recognized for her philanthropic efforts by numerous foundations. She will continue as a practicing physician.
