BON VOYAGE, CHARLIE BROWN

“Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown” has had a weird history on home video. I spent most of my childhood watching it as WAVE and WDRB used to air it on weekends when baseball games got rained out. I think that I only saw it once on HBO, but no other channels seemed to get this one. Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty and Marcy are sent as foreign exchange students to France.

What still stands out for me is the odd music choices and the push to make some of the France sequence so dark. Snoopy and Woodstock spends time in England and it’s funny. But, so much of the Maison stuff seems like Charlie Brown and the others are in danger. It’s not surprising that this was the last major film release for the crew until this year’s “Peanuts Movie” release. That being said, it has the nice bizarre tonal mix to make it a childhood favorite.

The DVD comes with a featurette as the sole special feature. The A/V Quality is strong enough. The transfer looks clean and makes me believe that there is an HD master out there. The mono track is true to its original source elements. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.

Release Date: 10/6/15
