ARMY WIVES: SEASON SIX PART ONE

THE PLOT THUS FARPrepare for the most moving season yet as TV’s heartfelt series hits new emotional heights in its stunning sixth year. Relive every touching moment from Lifetime’s hit drama Army Wives. Change is the word of the day as the Wives prepare to leave Fort Marshall and struggle with the prospect of living separate lives. However, when a natural disaster blows into town, it tosses all their plans up in the air. Jackie, an old friend of Denise, becomes a new face on the base, and she quickly gets on the wrong side of Claudia Joy. More relationships are tested as Nicole notices a disturbing change in Frank, and Joan and Roland are embroiled in a controversy involving their newly adopted son. Despite the drama, the bond between these astonishing women grows stronger as they band together through the most challenging times.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Army Wives” focuses the military experience on these whiny and simplistic wives and ignores the realities of war. It is my observation that the significant others are far more concerned about their loved ones safety than is portrayed here. It gives us all the self-serving jingoism regarding service in the United States military, service that is handled much too simplistically and in an embarrassingly politically correct fashion. There’s also the ham-fisted soap opera approaches to the series material. But, it’s still a less annoying show than most of the Shonda stuff.

While we only get the first half of Season 6 here, nothing changes in that regard. They get their big Marc Cherry style natural disaster episode, plus the women have to worry about being split up. Other than that, the most material it gets is talking about BRAC and nothing else. But, women watch these shows for the big drama. There’s plenty of that here including some trouble over Roland’s adopted kid. Why doesn’t anyone want to portray Roland as halfway decent on here?

The DVD comes with bloopers and deleted scenes. The A/V Quality is pretty strong, but the transfer still sports digital noise. What’s more surprising is the Dolby Digital 5.1 track sports no back channel dropout. That being said, I don’t know why we couldn’t get more than 13 episodes on this release. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans of the show.
