AREA 407

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Survivors of an airplane crash find themselves within the borders of a government testing area and pursued by predators.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Area 407″ follows the passengers aboard a small jet. They include a little girl and her sister, an alcoholic businessman, a journalist, and an Air Marshall as the main characters. Suddenly the plane crashes into a middle of a desert-like area, killing several. The survivors are stalked by a series of mysterious animals who start to pick them off. Still, it’s nothing more than a found footage movie about killer dinosaurs. The dinosaur effects aren’t that hot, but they seem to sport more of a personality than the humans.  I wish I had more to say about it, but this is what it is.

Most of the movie was so dark that you felt you were cheated out of paying to watch this, and the rest of the time it was either extreme close-ups of bloodied faces or running feet that you saw. And then enter the mysterious monster that stalked the night; a raptor dinosaur or sorts. You’ve seen it before and it has been better.

The DVD comes with a trailer as its only special feature. The A/V Quality is pretty strong with a really muddy transfer that ruins the presentation. The Dolby 5.1 track provides for a decent surround mix. Still, it’s not going to win any awards. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
