30 BEATS

THE PLOT THUS FAR

A summer heat wave and a series of sexual encounters connect a group of New Yorkers.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“30 Beats” is a movie about people banging during a heat wave. Jennifer Tilly and the guy from Weeds shows up to provide limited name value. However, nothing happens. It’s a continue story of tracing how one bang mate meets other bang maters. But, you also get that faux hipster vibe tossed in at no cost to you.

The movie plays superficially as a walking advertisement for STDs. When you go past the surface level, you’re not finding much more than that. I’d like to see that this was some deep piece about relationships in a new urban environment. It wasn’t and the loss of a basic premise like that left this product rudderless. Still, there’s the random flash of tit to keep you from turning it off.

The DVD comes with a trailer as its sole special features. The Dolby track is muddled with lots of noise stepping on each other. Plus, the standard definition track is pretty flat. Still, it works. In the end, I’d recommend skipping it.
